About Rovano

Who We Are · How We Work · Why We Do This

Rovano exists because wellness content on the internet is, largely, broken.

There's a lot of it. Most of it is either undisguised advertising dressed up as editorial content, or it's so cautious and hedged that it tells you nothing useful. The first kind misleads people. The second kind wastes their time. Neither is particularly helpful if you're trying to make an informed decision about something that actually affects how you feel every day.

I started Rovano to try to do something in between: be genuinely honest — including about uncertainty — while actually testing the things I write about and sharing specific observations rather than vague impressions.

Who Writes Here

My name is Rachel Donovan. I'm based in Atlanta and I've been writing about health and natural wellness for the better part of a decade. My background is in science communication — I spent several years writing for health publications before going independent, and in that time I developed a fairly practiced skepticism toward both overenthusiastic wellness marketing and reflexive dismissal of anything that isn't a pharmaceutical.

I got interested in natural supplement research not because I was looking for miracle solutions, but because I was frustrated by the quality of information available to people who wanted to make thoughtful, evidence-informed choices. The supplement industry is not well-regulated, the marketing is often misleading, and the independent research that would help consumers evaluate products is scattered across journals that most people can't access or parse.

Rovano is my attempt to bridge that gap — not as a scientist (I'm not one), but as someone who can read research critically and translate it honestly.

How We Test and Review

When Rovano reviews a product, a few things are always true:

We use the product ourselves, for long enough to say something meaningful. That's typically 6–8 weeks at minimum, and often longer. One-week impressions aren't useful for products that require consistent use to produce effects — and most natural supplements fall in that category.

We take notes during the process, not after. Writing a review based on memory is how you end up with a narrative rather than an observation. I keep a running log and consult it when writing.

We research the mechanism. If a product has active ingredients, I look at what the clinical literature says about those ingredients — not just manufacturer summaries, but actual study data where I can find it. The goal is to understand whether the theory behind the product is plausible before evaluating whether the experience matched it.

We include the negatives. A review that only mentions positives isn't a review — it's marketing copy. Every product I've reviewed has had things I'd want a friend to know before buying. Those things go in the review.

Affiliate Disclosure

Rovano earns money through affiliate links. When you click a link to a product and make a purchase, we may receive a commission from the company. This doesn't add any cost to you.

I want to be direct about this because I think transparency about monetization is essential to editorial credibility. The commission structure creates a financial incentive to be positive about products — I'm aware of that, and I think the only honest response is to be explicit about it and then demonstrate by example that it doesn't determine what I write.

Rovano has written about products with mixed and negative results. If I test something and find it doesn't deliver on its premise, I write that. A review site that only publishes positive reviews isn't useful to anyone except the companies being reviewed.

We also don't accept payment for positive reviews. If a company sends a product for testing, that's disclosed in the article. The review reflects what I actually found.
